HAMWORTHY councillor Julie Bagwell has been made the 772nd mayor of Poole.

Cllr Bagwell was elected to the position by the town’s charter trustees at the end of last week, taking over from councillor Marion Le Poidevin.

She said she was “honoured” to take up the role and said she would take “every opportunity” to use it to promote the town.

The former Poole People member is an independent councillor for the Hamworthy ward.

“I am so privileged to be able to represent this wonderful town for the next year,” she said. “My plan is visit as many places and meet as many people as possible.”

“It is such an honour to be chosen by my fellow councillors to be mayor.

“Poole is a fantastic place to live and it will be my privilege to represent the town, its residents, charities and businesses.”

She has chosen four organisations to support over the next four months: Winchelsea School, Kushti Bok, Hamworthy Hedgehog Rescue and Friends of Hamworthy Park.

Councillor Marion Le Poidevin, who had been mayor since 2019, will take on the deputy position for the coming year.

The role of sheriff has been given to councillor Tony Trent.
