MORE than 770,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Dorset, latest figures show.

Data released by NHS england shows 772,958 doses have been delivered across the county.

The figures also revelaed 94.6 per cent of people aged above 80 had received two doses of the vaccine in Dorset.

The number of people who had had two jabs in the age range of 75 to 79 exceeded the population figure given by the ONS.

In the age range of 70 to 74, 94.6 per cent of Dorset residents had had two jabs, 82.5 per cent of 65 to 69-year-olds had received the second dose and 47 per cent of 60 to 64-year0olds had had their second vaccination.

The stats also revealed that 60,421 people aged under 40 had received at least one dose.

Also receiving at least one dose is 83 per cent of 40 to 44-year-olds, 82.9 per cent of 45 to to 49-year-olds, 90.3 per cent of 50 to 54-year-olds and 95.6 oper cent of 55 to 59-year-olds.

Local Dorset GP, and Clinical Lead for the Dorset COVID-19 vaccination programme Dr Karen Kirkham said: “Delivering over 750,000 doses is a massive achievement and is testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved.

“We have made incredible progress so far and what is really important now is that people continue to take up of the offer of a vaccination and those who have had their first dose come and get their second when invited to give them the strongest possible protection against the virus.

“Getting vaccinated is the best way of protecting yourself and reducing the spread Covid-19. We have come this far by working together to protect each other and we need to continue watching out for each other at this time and not let the prospect of a better summer slip from our grasp.”
