I AM sure many of your readers will be alarmed to discover that snares are still legal.

Snares are thin wire nooses designed to catch animals – usually foxes or rabbits – until the person who set the snare returns to kill them.

Animals can struggle when caught – resulting in horrific injuries, immense suffering and death.
Snares are also indiscriminate, catching other wild species such as deer and badger. They pose a danger not only to wildlife, but also companion animals.

A quick internet search will bring up horrific stories of cats, foxes, dogs and badgers being caught in snares.

Animal Aid have recently launched a campaign to ban snares, and members of the public can help by using our online template to write to their MP and local councillors asking for action to be taken.

More information is available at animalaid.org.uk/snares. Please support our campaign for a ban on snares.
