A MAN who caused more than £1,000 worth of damage to a train while it was travelling between Bournemouth and Poole railway stations has been handed a prison sentence.

Liam Hutchinson, 27, admitted a single charge of criminal damage when he appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 4 by video link.

The case against Hutchinson, which was followed a British Transport Police investigation, alleged he damaged carriage fixtures on the South Western Railway service on May 16 last year.

The court heard the damage totalled £1,186.78.

Hutchinson, who was already currently in custody at HMP Portland, was committed to prison for seven days concurrent.

The bench noted the seriousness of the offence due to the defendant’s flagrant disregard for people and their property.

He was ordered to pay £1,186.78 compensation to South Western Railway.
