FOUR pupils from Talbot Heath School are taking on a 26 mile challenge along the Jurassic Coast to raise money for a cancer charity.

Year eight pupils Emily Baggott, Lola House, Bonnie Sandeman-Lomax and Nancy Taylor will be taking on the trek on May 15 in aid of Myeloma UK.

Emily, 12, lost her dad Jeremy Baggott, 50, to multiple myeloma just before Christmas.

The group of friends decided to raise money for the charity close to Emily's heart, and have already raised £1,600 ahead of their gruelling walk.

Lola said: "In these awful situations it’s hard to know how to really help a friend. So we came up with the idea of this walk and it suddenly brought us all together in support. It showed Emily how much we care and we want to be beside her every step of the way on this challenge."

The group of friends will start their walk in Lilliput and will follow the South West Coast Path, walking the length of a marathon.

This is expected to take them around 10 hours, and the girls hope that in this time, they will reach their target of £2,000.

Emily said: "Multiple myeloma is such an evil disease that stole my daddy. It’s my dream that one day a cure will be found so we can beat it and make it history. I think my dad would be very proud of us. He loved walking in this area so I know he’ll be with us cheering us on."

Talbot Heath head teacher, Angharad Holloway said: "We are very proud of these young ladies. They’ve taken a negative situation and are creating meaningful positives. This attitude is exactly what we try to instil in our pupils and they are demonstrating it superbly. We wish them so much luck for the big day."
