A BOURNEMOUTH care home resident was reunited with her daughter after a year apart.

Zetland Court resident Joycelyn Mills, who celebrated her 101 birthday last June, was reunited with her daughter Jocelyn following the easing of lockdown restrictions.

The new guidance from the government allows each care home resident to receive visits from one family member or loved one.

During Jocelyn's visit, the pair also had a video call with relatives in Spain and London, which allowed Joycelyn to see her great great grandchild on the screen.

Joycelyn said: "I feel over the moon. I am seeing my daughter face to face for the first time in over a year."

Her daughter Jocelyn said: "This is wonderful. We have made a beautiful moment, so truly magical and emotional. I am overjoyed to see my mum."

This is the first time residents have been able to meet in the same room as their loved one without a physical partition.

Home Manager, Iain Slack said: "Throughout the pandemic, our staff have run the extra mile to support our residents to stay connected with their families, which is vital for their wellbeing. Now we are delighted to be able to reunite our residents safely with their loved ones in person."

To ensure the health and safety of residents and staff at the care home, each visitor must undertake a lateral flow test before entering the home and receive a negative result for Covid-19, before meeting their loved one in person.

They must also wear suitable personal protective equipment, including gloves, apron and a mask.
