PLANNING officials will have to decide whether to grant permission for developers to demolish an existing building in Poole and replace it with a block of ten flats.

Chapman Lily Planning Ltd want to demolish the existing building at 42 Springfield Road and replace it with a block of ten flats with parking.

If approved, the site will have new or altered vehicular access from the road as well as pedestrian access.

Currently, there are four car parking spaces at the site, however if plans are approved, there will be an additional 12 created.

The flats will consist of nine two-bedroom apartments, and one four-plus bedrooms apartment.

However, the plans have been met with some resistance following a consultation.

A statement from a neighbour said: “The volume of vehicles entering and leaving the completed site having to not only deal with the chicane immediately outside both premises but, with other vehicles parked in Springfield Rd blocking our exit safely, it is only time before a major accident.

“The size of the proposed development will tower our building and not only block light and privacy, will do harm to our foundations.”

Another response said: “My main objection is there's a slalom traffic calming structure in place and it's already difficult to turn into Verenna, 44 Springfield Road. Where's that going to go, further down?

“Springfield Road is a rat-run down to Ashley Cross, cars are ok but the amount of heavy lorries and trucks. Sooner or later there will be almighty accident.”

Another concern raised said: “To add a further ten households accessing the road at this point, where we are already experiencing ourselves problems being so close to the chicane will be dangerous.

“The chicane is meant to slow traffic but does the opposite where we see vehicles and cyclists racing at speed to get through without having to give way.

“This proposed development is excessive both in its build size but also the proposed number of occupants and potential car owners.”
