MORE than 86,000 people under the age of 55 have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Figures released by NHS England shows 355,300 people have had the first dose of the vaccine across the county.

Of people under 55, 86,500 have had the first dose, 34,709 people aged between 55 and 59 have, and 42,782 people aged between 60 and 64 have had the first jab.

The data also revealed that 44,840 people aged between 65 and 96 and their first dose as well as 50,905 people aged between 70 and 74.

Of people aged between 75 and 79, 38,870 have had the vaccine and 56,694 people aged above 80 have had the first dose.

Furthermore, 98.8 per cent of people over 80- years old in the south west have had at least one dose.

The stats also showed that 12,230 people over 55 have had the second dose in the south west and 2,868 people under 55 have had it.
