I MUST say I was rather amused at Sue Stockley’s defence of her idea of a cycling festival to ‘upgrade’ the Air Festival.

Can I ask Ms Stockley exactly how she seems to think a cycling festival could ‘upgrade’ the air show?

From her letter in the Echo (Mar 11) all I read was long list in which cycling is used in normal life as a means of local transport, instead of motor vehicles.

Of course cycling releases endorphins, all exercise does, but in all seriousness can she really see cycling replacing the sheer enjoyment of the Red Arrows, Typhoon and the sadly missed Vulcan XH558 amongst others.

And what type of cycling events has she got in mind that would bring in the same amount of money that the aircraft do, I for the life of me cannot think of one single thing.

I just see this as a typical Green idea that is just purely fantasy with no real chance of succeeding in practice, it was an electric Grand Prix not so long ago being suggested by someone else. I fear this is a purely deluded idea.

We have already had the damp squib which was the Wheels Festival, now does she really think that cycling will do better?

Come on Sue, let us know what you think would be as exciting as the Air Festival. I am dying to know.
