Killer Timothy Brehmer's appeal hearing set for next month

Brehmer was jailed for 10 years and six months for the manslaughter of Claire Parry in an East Dorset pub car park.

The former police constable was acquitted of Mrs Parry’s murder following a trial at Salisbury Crown Court in October last year.

The 41-year-old had admitted manslaughter before the trial took place and was told by Judge Mr Justice Richard Jacobs that he would serve two thirds of his sentence in custody and the rest on licence.

However, it was subsequently confirmed that Brehmer, of Hordle, New Forest, would be appealing the sentence he had received in an attempt to have it reduced.

Meanwhile, following a request to the Attorney General’s Office, the case has also been referred to the Court of Appeal to assess whether the sentence was ‘unduly lenient’ and should be extended.

Both appeal bids were made inside 28 days of the sentencing, as is required for them to be considered by the Court of Appeal.

It has now been confirmed to the Daily Echo that the case regarding both appeals has been listed for the first time at the court in London, with a hearing due to take place on Wednesday, March 10.

As reported, in passing sentence Judge Jacobs said he was “sure” Brehmer intended to take Mrs Parry by the neck after she sent a text to his wife revealing the affair.

The judge sentenced Brehmer on the basis that he lost control after the message was sent rather than on the basis he unintentionally killed the nurse.

Brehmer killed his long-term lover Mrs Parry at the Horns Inn pub car park in West Parley on May 9 last year.

During the trial, it was heard that the pair had been having an affair for 11 years.

After Brehmer was jailed, Dorset Police confirmed a misconduct hearing had taken place, with the killer being dismissed from the force and placed on the national barred list.
