MORE than 80 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Dorset over the last 24 hours, latest figures show.

Data released by the government shows 83 cases were recorded in the county over the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Tuesday.

Of these cases, 51 were recorded in the BCP Council area, taking the conurbation’s total since the start of the pandemic to 24,498.

In the seven days leading up to February 18, the latest rolling seven-day period, 539 cases were confirmed in BCP, giving a rolling infection rate of 136.3 per 100,000 people.

The Dorset Council area recorded 32 new cases, taking the total to 11,102.

The rolling rate stood at 82.7 per 100,000 people with 313 cases confirmed in a week.

Elsewhere, 13 cases were recorded in the New Forest, taking the total to 5,844.

The rolling rate stood at 72.2 with 130 cases recorded in the week before February 18.
