AFTER reading your report of several exotic birds found dead or dying in an empty flat (Letters, Feb 13), I struggled to comprehend how anyone could leave these poor creatures caged without food or water, knowing they would suffer a long and painful death.

The pitiful fine given and the pointless ban on keeping animals, just means to me this is no deterrent to this kind of torture happening again.

If I had my way, I would at least print a photo of this heartless moron, or even lock him away for a few days with no food or water until he realises the pain he put these birds through.
