FLOODING could affect parts of Dorset and Ringwood following Storm Christoph, the Environment Agency has warned.

Flood alerts are currently in force for the Lower Avon and tributaries and the Upper Stour and tributaries as a result of heavy rain on Wednesday.

The Environment Agency said it expects river levels to remain high between Ringwood and Christchurch until Friday.

A spokesperson said: “Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens and checking watercourses. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers which may be flooded and refer to local authority website for local road closures.”

People were urged to install property flood resilience equipment along the Upper Stour and tributaries on Wednesday evening.

Storm Christoph brought heavy rain to Dorset on Wednesday.

A yellow warning for the whole of the county was issued by the Met Office.

No further warnings are in force for the next few days which are expected to be dry with conditions turning colder this weekend.

It will feel like just 1C during the daytime on Saturday and Sunday.
