POOLE-BASED sailor Pip Hare is battling another technical problem as she continues in the Vendee Globe round-the-world race.

The gruelling, non-stop solo race has seen highs and lows for the sailor and she is currently in 15th place out of the 27 remaining racers.

The latest hitch is a failed wind wand at the top of the mast of her yacht, Medallia.

This means she has only been able to sail on compass mode on her autopilot but she continues to search for a solution.

She still has more than 9,000 nautical miles to go and is around 2,000 nautical miles behind leader Yannick Besthaven.

Pip has had a rollercoaster ride so far, facing the different challenges of high winds and rough seas, broken by periods of little or no wind.

The race, which starts and ends in Vendee, France, runs from November to February ad is roughly 24,000 nautical miles long.
