FORMER AFC Bournemouth and Southampton manager Harry Redknapp has praised the new facilities at Wimborne Town FC new home ground, built by Wyatt Homes.

Wyatt Homes have completed work on the new J&B’s Stadium for Wimborne Town FC adjacent to the housing company’s recently completed ‘Saxonbury’ development off Parmiter Drive.

The 2018 I’m a Celebrity winner said that features at the New Cuthbury site are “amazing” and will help the club as they continue to aspire to rise up the leagues.

Harry Redknapp said: “It’s fantastic, it is amazing what they have done. It really is special.

“To see a stadium like this for a non-league club is beyond belief really. Its top draw.

“I had been to the old ground and went to the previous stadium a few times, but this ground is another level. It makes you want to play football again.

“It’s beautiful around here. As you drive in, the housing development is great, and the stadium is fantastic. What’s not to like. I’ll be over to watch a few games here for sure.”

The bespoke facilities include two pitches and spectator stands, built to FA standards, a large kitchen and communal space, so that the club will be able to host events and private functions.

Wimborne Town FC leave behind their former stadium Cuthbury on the other side of the town, which has been their home since their formation in 1878.

Chairman Tony Grant said: “The facilities are far better than what we thought we would get so a huge thank you goes to Wyatt Homes for what they have done for us.

Under the new rules, clubs in our league can have up to 500 or 600 people in attendance and we should be able to accommodate that quite easily

Everyone at the club is looking forward to continuing the season now. We are currently 13th at the moment but this move can help give the players an extra boost on the pitch so hopefully we can climb up the table

Harry Redknapp is a patron of our football club and for him to give up his time and have him come along and praise us on our facilities is fantastic

Wyatt Homes, who subcontracted the build, first began plans for the new stadium 12 years ago. Having started work on the new site in January, Wyatt Homes say that staff have worked around the clock to get the stadium complete in 11 months.

The team will now play the remainder of this season’s games at the new stadium, starting with a home game against Beaconfield on Saturday December 12.

David Wyatt, managing director of Wyatt Homes added: “As house builders we are known for quality housing developments, but this is the first football stadium we have built.

“It has taken longer than expected due to the Covid-19 restrictions and the amount to people we have been able to have on site. There has been a lot of overtime and weekend work to get this finished.

“We have done our bit, now it is over to Wimborne Town FC. We have built the stadium so that it does have the capacity for them to go up a league so hopefully they can continue to grow and develop as a side.

“Wimborne were at their last ground for over a hundred years so, with their new facilities, we look forward to having them here for another one hundred years.”
