HEAVY rain could cause travel disruption today, the Met Office has warned.

As much as 20 to 40mm of rainfall could be seen in some places in just a few hours.

Flooding has already been reported in Bournemouth's Lower Gardens and in Magna Road where there's also a fallen tree. 

A yellow weather alert has been issued for Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and the rest of the county.

It will be in force until 11am.

A Met Office said: “Persistent heavy rain is expected for a time this morning with 20-40 mm rain falling in some places in just a few hours.

"Rain may also turn to sleet or snow at times in a few places first thing this morning, most likely over hills where small, slushy accumulations are possible.

"Rain is then expected to start to become more intermittent later this morning.”

In terms of what to expect, the Met Office says:

  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
