Found in the archives of the Daily Echo library is this image of firefighters fighting a fire at the Smugglers Haunt in February 1964. The fire which spread through the thatch roof of the pub meant the building had to reconstructed which was done in the following years. In 1974 the pub on Ringwood Road, Ferndown, was bought by the Beefeater chain.
