A few eagle-eyed people also captured what appeared to be a red rainbow around the same time.
Red rainbows – also known as monochrome rainbows, occur at sunrise or sunset when the sun is very low in the sky.
Normal rainbows happen when light passes through water in the atmosphere when it’s sunny and raining at the same time but with red rainbows, only red colours show up.
When the sun is low, its blue and green light you would normally see is scattered and only the red and yellow hues can be seen, which gives the illusion of a red rainbow.
