GCSE students are self-isolating following a confirmed case of coronavirus at a Bournemouth secondary school.

Parents of students at Avonbourne Boys and Girls' Academies have been informed of a single positive case.

Some students have been asked to remain at home while the Harewood Avenue schools remain open to all other pupils.

In a letter to parents, senior vice principal Michelle Dyer said: "We all realise that cases of Covid-19 are rising locally and, with a national lockdown underway, this does impact on the school. At all times we will take the advice and guidance of the scientific and medical experts at Public Health England (PHE) and will not hesitate to adopt any additional measures they feel are appropriate.

"We have become aware of a single, isolated case within Year 10 and so we are following the experts' advice on what we need to do.

"As a result, we have instructed a small number of students within Year 10 who have been in proximity contact with the individual who has tested positive to self-isolate at home as a precaution for 14 days.

"At home, they will be provided with a full programme of online learning from our staff so that none

of them fall behind in their lessons whilst they are unable to come into school."
