CRIMINALS jailed in October for Dorset offences include a rapist, a killer and three members of a gang at the centre of one of the county's largest ever drug busts.
Despite coronavirus restrictions affecting many parts of daily life, the courts continue to operate and deal with cases.
The list below includes some of the offenders that were put behind bars by judges last month.
Their combined sentences totalled 70 years and six months in jail although some of them could be released part way through their terms of imprisonment.
While all of the criminals committed offences in Dorset, some of the cases were heard in courts outside of the county, including Winchester and Salisbury crown courts.
The offenders' names and a summary of what led to them appearing in the dock are as follows:
Dennis Adkin
Rapist Dennis Adkin, 49 and of Cuthbury Gardens, Wimborne, was told by Judge Robert Pawson QC at Bournemouth Crown Court on October 8 that he should have been charged "probably two years earlier than you were".
Adkin raped a woman in her own home in November 2017 and was convicted following a trial.
The victim reported the attack a month after it took place and the offender was interviewed the following day, however, he was not charged until January of this year.
In a victim impact statement the woman said: "I felt very crushed. This is something that will stay with me for a very long time. I still wait up at night fighting and shouting in my sleep. I am constantly scared and feel vulnerable all the time."
Adkin was jailed for three years and three months. He was also handed a restraining order banning him from contacting his victim indefinitely. He will also have to register as a sex offender.
Jose Ivo Ferreira, Dean Wesley Lovell and Fleur Marie Newman
These three members of an organised gang were sentenced to more than 28 years behind bars.
The trio, Jose Ivo Ferreira, 30 and of no fixed abode, Dean Wesley Lovell, 30, of Cull Close, Poole, and Fleur Marie Newman, 28, of Ripon Road, Bournemouth, were responsible for supplying Bournemouth and Poole with huge amounts of cocaine, heroin, ketamine, MDMA and cannabis.

Drugs with a street value in excess of one million pounds were seized, following an operation led by officers from Dorset Police's Serious Organised Crime Investigation Team (SOCIT).
Five blocks of cocaine, each weighing nearly a kilo, and more than £60,000 in cash was recovered by officers.
Ferreira admitted charges of conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs in December 2019. Lovell and Newman pleaded guilty to class A and B drugs supply offences in August this year.
All three were sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Friday, October 16. Ferreira was handed 12 years in prison, Lovell received nine-and-a-half years and Newman was sentenced to seven years.
Tobias Gorman
Obsessive stalker Tobias Gorman was jailed for three-and-a-half years for offences of stalking, assault, criminal damage and breaching a restraining order in relation to his ex-girlfriend.
He also admitted a charge of harassment relating to a second woman who he bombarded with messages after they met on a dating app.
Gorman, 30 and of Conifer Avenue, Poole, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court on October 19 to be sentenced by Judge Stephen Climie, who said the criminal needed "serious help" and admitted he made a mistake in deferring sentence last year in relation to some of the defendant's crimes.
The judge said he did not regard Gorman as dangerous at present, but he warned him that if they were to meet again in relation to similar offences “you will have provided the court with sufficient evidence that you are going to cause some really serious danger to another individual”.
Michael Myles
An attack on a man with a knife has led to 63-year-old Michael Myles being jailed for 10 years and four months at Winchester Crown Court on Monday, October 26.
Myles, formerly of Argyll Road, Bournemouth, changed his plea midway through a trial and admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent following an incident at his former home in April.
On the evening of Saturday, April 18, the victim – a local man aged in his 50s – was at home with his female partner when she decided to visit Myles at his home in Argyll Road.
The victim tried to persuade his partner not to go due to COVID-19 restrictions, but she ignored this request and left. The victim later called his partner to ask her to return home, but she again refused.
The man then decided to go to the address and took a seat in the living room area. Myles left the room, returned holding a knife and told the victim he was going to stab him. He sustained two stab wounds on his neck, wounds on his left arm and back and other lacerations across his face.
DC Ben Swain, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Michael Myles carried out this violent attack and I hope the sentence handed out by the court will send out a very clear message that knife crime will not be tolerated in our communities.”
William Carter
Fraudster William Carter caused "absolute havoc" on couple's lives by claiming to be a private investigator.
Carter, 38 and of Woodlinken Close, Verwood, exposed Richarad Grey's long-term affair to his wife Paulene before charging her thousands of pounds for ‘private eye detective work’ to gather evidence against her husband.
This fraudulent investigator claim led to him being jailed for 15 months at Bournemouth Crown Court on October 20, consecutive to his current term of imprisonment for a separate matter.
Judge Robert Pawon QC said: “The impact on the Greys has been really serious.
“Her life (Ms Grey) was turned upside down. Both of them became paranoid. There were in fact two victims.
“Your behaviour had a serious detrimental affect on your two victims, in particular Ms Grey.”
Paul Henbest and Steven Henbest
Brothers Paul David Henbest and Steven Mark Henbest were both jailed for three years and four months for carrying out the robbery at Barclays bank in Bournemouth on August 27.
Their own barristers described the crime as "brazen" and "foolish", with them being caught by police less than an hour after they entered the bank in Old Christchurch Road armed with knives.
A hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, October 29, was told one of the brothers went up to a cashier and demanded money was put in a bag. However, a quick thinking member of staff handed over the £160 in old notes and Scottish currency, which could be traced easily.
They fled in a BMW that was parked nearby. A short time later a report was received from a member of the public who had seen a black BMW driving at speed in the area of Meyrick Park with its number plates covered.
Two men were seen to get out of the vehicle and one of them walked over to some bushes. The brothers were picked up by a taxi and the BMW was left at the scene. Police seized the car and traced it to its registered keeper’s address in Bournemouth, where the Henbests were arrested.
In sentencing Paul Henbest, 39 and of Desborough Road, Eastleigh, and Steven Henbest, 37 and of Richmond Wood Road, Bournemouth, Judge Stephen Climie said the court had a duty to protect the public in serious cases of crime such as the robbery where there can be violence or the threat of violence.
Matthew Keets
Matthew Joseph Keets groomed a schoolgirl into engaging in sexual activity with him after they first came into contact over Snapchat.
Keets, 23 and of Bennett Road, Bournemouth was jailed for four years and four months at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, October 29, after he admitted string of child sex offences.
After first messaging in August 2019, Keets and the girl, who was aged 14 at the time when he was 22, engaged in consensual sexual activity at the defendant’s home.
The victim was reported missing in November 2019 and was found by family members at Keets’ address.
He was arrested and admitted to engaging in sexual activity with the victim but claimed he did not know she was underage.
He was released on bail with conditions not to contact the victim but, following reports Keets was breaching those conditions, officers attended his address in February 2020 and found him in company with the victim.
Keets was arrested again and an examination of his mobile phone revealed a number of messages illustrating the defendant’s grooming behaviour toward the victim as well as indecent images of her.
DC Caroline Gould, of Dorset Police’s Child Exploitation Team, said: "We are committed to supporting vulnerable young people who are at risk of grooming at the hands of offenders such as Keets and will do all we can to bring those who commit these despicable crimes to justice.”
Timothy Brehmer
Dismissed Dorset Police officer Timothy Brehmer was jailed after admitting the manslaughter of his long-term lover Claire Parry.
Brehmer, of Hordle, New Forest, was jailed for 10 years and six months by Judge Mr Justice Richard Jacobs at Salisbury Crown Court on Wednesday, October 28.
The 41-year-old killed Mrs Parry at the Horns Inn pub car park in West Parley on May 9.
During a sentencing hearing on October 28, Judge Jacobs said he was “sure” Brehmer intended to take Mrs Parry by the neck after she sent a text to his wife revealing the affair.
Judge Jacobs sentenced Brehmer on the basis that he lost control after the message was sent rather than on the basis he unintentionally killed her.
The judge told the defendant: “Your actions have not only cut short her life at a young age, and robbed the community of a nurse, but you have deprived her family of a daughter, wife and mother; as well as a sister and niece."
Brehmer was dismissed from Dorset Police and placed on the national barred list following a private misconduct hearing in September. His prison sentence was referred to the Attorney General's Office to assess whether it was "unduly lenient".
Lee Hepburn
Lee Hepburn has scores of criminal convictions and previous jail time on his record.
He was back behind bars last month after committing a series of driving offences, including a period of dangerous driving that showed a "flagrent disregard" for the safety of others.
Hepburn, 32 and of no fixed abode, was at the wheel of a Toyota car when he decided to overtake another motorist in Wallisdown Road.
This caught the attention of two officers on patrol in a marked police car as Hepburn’s vehicle was travelling directly towards them at speed on the wrong side of the road.
He avoided a crash by returning to the correct side of the carriageway at a distance of just two car lengths away from the officers.
Judge Robert Pawson QC sentenced Hepburn to two years and one month in prison and disqualified him from driving for three years, with an extension due to his period of imprisonment.
