THIS is the moment fireworks caused a fire on Bournemouth’s East Cliff.

The fire involving an area of heath near the East Cliff Zig Zags was reported to the fire service at 11.40pm.

Fire crews from Poole, Westbourne and Springbourne attended along with the aerial ladder platform.

The incident was dealt with by 12.34am but crews remained on the scene until 1.43am.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said firefighters used hose reel jets and two main lines to extinguish the fire.

A reinspection of the scene took place on Friday morning.

The fire one of two incidents that took place on the seafront involving fireworks.

At 10pm, firefighters dealt with a blaze involving a “large area of heath” at Canford Cliffs.

Fire crews from Poole and Westbourne rushed to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to the beach huts.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At 10pm we responded to a large area of heath on fire at Canford Cliffs which we believe was caused by fireworks.

“Crews from Poole and Westbourne attended and by 10.36pm sent the stop message through.

“Crews used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire and prevent the fire from spreading to the beach huts.”

Posting about the incident on Twitter on Thursday evening, the fire service said: “Wow, just wow. We've asked people to please be sensible.”
