TWO Parkstone Grammar School pupils completed an eight-hour sponsored walk around Dorset in aid of XR Fashion Action.

Hannah Sajan and Mimi Gorringe, both 16-years-old, undertook the gruelling challenge on Wednesday, October 28 to raise money for their chosen charity.

The walk began at Branksome Chine which then led Hannah and Mimi along Sandbanks Beach.

From there, they took the chain ferry to Studland, walked to Old Harry Rocks along the cliffs, then proceeded to Agglestone Rock.

The pair finished the walk by catching the ferry back to Sandbanks.

Hannah and Mimi intend to spend awareness about XR Fashion Action (a group within Extinction Rebellion) and to fundraise for some of the company’s motives.

The pair said: "Fast fashion is one of the biggest problems on earth right now and is the cause of harm to many animal species and our atmosphere being destroyed. Tonnes of fashion waste are made by companies which end up in landfill and eventually our oceans.

"Companies' ever-changing trends and fashions are the cause to these problems. Consumers like us buy their products which destroy our atmosphere and marine life just to stay up to date with the latest trends. And when these trends are finished, we throw our products away and wait for the next trend.

"This so-called consumerism is tearing our earth apart and causing mass extinction of our most valuable species."

Hannah and Mimi both took Textiles as a subject for GCSE, which was an eye-opener for them with regards to the amount of fashion waste created by companies.

In order to raise awareness for this issue they decided to walk along the Dorset Coast to raise at least £50 for XR Fashion Action.

The pair ploughed on through the unpleasant weather to complete the challenge to raise the vital funds.

Hannah said: "The experience was very fun, however, due to the poor weather conditions it was very hard to pull through. The wind was hitting against us, and not to mention the horrific rain. However, we explored a lot of natural landscape and explored trails. So, although the weather wasn't on our side, the view and the cause for which we were walking helped us persevere."
