POLICE called to investigate reports of the attempted abduction of two teenage girls have warned people not to spread "potentially harmful social media posts."

Officers were told two teenage males had attempted to abduct two teenage females in Sturminster Newton at the weekend.

Dorset Police was called at 8.24pm on Saturday October 17 to reports of a suspicious vehicle, also alleged to have been seen in the Blandford and Gillingham areas.

A spokesman for North Dorset Police said: "Police received a report of an attempted abduction over the weekend of involving two teenage females by two teenage males in a car.

"We have investigated this thoroughly and have not established any offences. All persons have been spoken to and we remind people not to jump to conclusions or spread potentially harmful social media posts."

A Dorset Police spokesman added: "Officers have responded to these incidents and have identified the individuals involved. They are assisting officers with their enquiries.

"At this time no offences have been identified. No arrests have been made."
