Art enthusiasts will be able to immerse themselves in a unique audial experience as the Arts By The Sea festival launches with an adventure into the sonic wonders of the living world.

Bournemouth based audio artist Guy Dowsett will present his creation, The Congregation, at St Peter’s Church from Friday September 25, signalling the start of the 10-day arts festival.

Guy Dowsett’s is a musician and composer influenced by the sounds collected in his travels and while studying in Helsinki and Melbourne.

He said: “Audiences are invited to stand under the sonic structure at church entrance where, through the spatial and reactive design, hundreds of insects, birds and other creatures can be heard in a ‘biophony’ of natural audio.

“For millennia humans lived in forests, surrounded by all kinds of animals calling out in the trees and all around.

“Today, we have journeyed into a habitat more barren, without trees, where most of the sound we hear is our own.

“The Congregation offers audiences a unique experience returning them to the sonic richness of a fertile forest to remember our natural past.”

The art installation, which takes inspiration from Bernie Krause’s book ‘The Great Animal Orchestra’, will be at the entrance to on Hinton Road, from Friday September 25 to Friday October 2.
