A CARE home in Bournemouth is supporting World Alzheimer’s Day by talking about and raising awareness of dementia.

World Alzheimer’s Day on Monday, September 21 is part of World Alzheimer Month and this year’s theme is, ‘Let’s talk about dementia’, which Bluebird Care Bournemouth & Poole endeavours to do.

The aim of the day is to raise awareness of dementia, understand its impact on people’s daily lives, challenge the stigma of dementia and the strategies to help people live comfortably with dementia.

The most common type of dementia is Alzheimer’s Disease, and one of the earliest symptoms is memory loss as the memory region of the brain is often the first to become damaged.

Director of Bluebird Care Bournemouth & Poole, Melanie Cohen said: "Many of our customers already have or may develop dementia. It is important that we raise awareness and work together to tackle dementia.

"Our care workers are Dementia Friends and can undergo additional training to further their expertise and understanding of dementia."
