A MAN is fighting for his life in hospital following a serious assault at the entrance of a Bournemouth town centre car park.
The victim, a local man aged in his 50s, sustained a serious head injury in the incident outside Avenue Road car park at the junction of Avenue Road and Norwich Avenue on Sunday night.
He was taken to hospital and police described his condition as "life-threatening".
A 32-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of grievious bodily harm with intent.
Officers have put up a cordon around the area and scenes of crime investigators are currently conducting examinations.
Entrances to the car park were taped off by police.
A spokeswoman for Dorset Police said: "We were called at 10pm on Sunday, September 13, to reports of an assault at the entrance to Avenue Road car park at the junction of Avenue Road and Norwich Avenue in Bournemouth.
"A local man aged in his 50s sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is described as life-threatening.
"A cordon remains in place while investigators examine the scene. An investigation is underway.
"A 32-year-old man from Poole has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and is assisting officers with their enquiries."
