The Goods Yard in Broadstone was nominated by you as Pub of the Week, with readers loving the food, the atmosphere and, of course, the fine selection of real ale, lager and wine.

Bournemouth Echo:

The Goods Yard is a free house owned by Primetower Leisure Limited and managed by Jenny James since it opened in 2008.

So we had a chat with Jenny about business over the last few months.

What is this pub best known for?

The Goods Yard it a Traditional pub with real log fires in winter a large outside terrace for summer. We pride ourselves on our offering of 'well kept' real ales, selection of lagers, great wines, a large selection of spirits, great food and friendly staff. We are dog friendly, we can’t promise your furry friend wont get more attention than you!

Bournemouth Echo:
We have received loads of lovely comments about your food – can you tell us a little about it?

We have a strong team, most of who started at the bottom in our kitchen and have worked their way up, learning from the chefs above them while also training at college.

Wherever possible we use fresh ingredients to prepare our menu of pub favourites as well as specials that offer something new. Our burgers and Sunday Roasts are particularly impressive and it can be a challenge to clear the plate!

Have you had any famous famous eat or drink with you?

We couldn’t possibly comment, but would say that all our customers are special.

Bournemouth Echo:

What did you do in lockdown?

The day all  pubs went into lock down was ironically was The Goods Yards 12th birthday, all staff were furloughed.  This was a difficult time for everyone, and it was a massive relief to be able to open again and welcome our customers back.

What measures have you in place to keep people safe?

We spent a lot of time assessing the risks and carefully followed the Government guidance to ensure that The Goods Yard opened as a safe place to eat and drink.  We currently offer table only service with tables of no more than six people. Cleaning and other policies have been adapted to keep our customers and staff safe.  We are VisitEngland “Good to Go” which recognises that we are following the COVID-19 guidelines.

Bournemouth Echo:

Has business picked up?

It has been hard and being COVID safe has cut capacity massively, which has meant weekends are very different.  The Eat Out to Help Out Scheme really helped though and we have continued this into September at our own cost – so please keep supporting us and grab a half price meal on any Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

What do you love about the pub?

The customers, we love it when we are busy and there is a buzz of people enjoying themselves, it really makes the building feel alive.
Anything else you would like the reader to know?  Pubs need your support.  If you want local pubs that are not part of big chains, you need to support them.   So come in for a pint, a glass of wine, a coffee, lunch or dinner – all served with a friendly and warm welcome.
