HIRE bike firm Beryl is assisting police with their investigation into a rape in Bournemouth's Lower Gardens.

As reported, emergency services attended the town centre area near the public toilets following reports of the incident at 2.51am on Saturday, September 5.

The victim, a woman aged in her 20s, was taken to hospital.

A cordon was put in place to allow officers to examine the scene.

Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Christijan Boyle, of Bournemouth CID, said the force was keen to speak to a man who rode past the toilets towards The Square on a Beryl bike at around 1.50am.

A Beryl spokesperson told the Daily Echo: "We have been in contact with Dorset Police and will continue to assist them in any way we can to help with this investigation."

On Monday afternoon, a spokeswoman for Dorset Police confirmed no arrests had been made and enquiries were ongoing.
