ABOUT 200 took athletes took part in Bournemouth's first ever biathlon.
It was thirty years ago when competitors took part in the gruelling swim-and-run challenge at the Pier.
The event, held on September 22, 1990, was organised by Bournemouth Council and sponsored by Frizzell Insurance.
Unlike the previously held triathlon, where a cycling race is also included, athletes could take part without expensive equipment.
First over the finish line was John Schabb while first female home was Claire Roberts.
Richard Morgan placed first in the over-40 race and Daniel Stevens took home the junior trophy.
First novice to finish was Matthew Davies.
