NINE years ago today, torrential rain caused flooding and travel chaos across Dorset.
The A338 Wessex Way was partially blocked by flooding all the way from County Gates to Cooper Dean, while parts of Castle Lane were under 2ft of water.
Several sewers overflowed and all the beaches in Poole and Bournemouth were red flagged by the RNLI as a public health precaution.
The first day of the Bournemouth Air Festival was also affected with daytime flying displays and Night Air cancelled due to the severe flooding in Bournemouth's Lower Gardens.
Bournemouth’s Lower and Central Gardens and Boscombe Gardens were both in deep floodwater during the storms.
The Russell-Cotes museum was forced to close as a result of flooding.
Looking back at the weather from that day, Springbourne-based weather enthusiast Jim Smith said that 50mm of rain fell that day, including 35mm in just one hour between 10am and 11am.
He said that daytime temperatures were between 12 and 13C.
Around 200 staff from across all the council’s staff along with teams from Wessex Water and volunteers worked through the night to return the town to pristine condition ready for the next day's Air Festival.
