A STRETCH of the A31 at Ringwood was closed this morning due to a “serious” collision.

The westbound carriageway was shut between junction two of the M27 and the A338 near Ashley Heath following the crash at 8.11am this morning.

A diversion was put in place with road users advised to exit the M27 at junction two.

All lanes reopened at around 11.50am but there are reports of "heavy delays" on approach and all diversion routes.

Highways England said police confirmed that collision investigation work will be undertaken.

Dorset Police said: “We were called at 8.11am on Friday 14 August 2020 to a report of a collision near to the Ashley Heath roundabout on the A31 in Ferndown.

“Officers are in attendance, along with the ambulance and fire services.”

Bournemouth Echo:

Shortly after the crash, delays of 90-minutes were being reported on the A31. 

There were also reports of 30-minute delays heading back towards junction four of the M3 for Eastleigh.

Access to West Street in Ringwood was closed off at Market Place.
