FIREFIGHTERS extinguished a blaze in the engine compartment of a Mercedes in Bournemouth.
A crew from Redhill Park rushed to the scene in Ashton Road, Moordown, on Saturday evening.
Flames could be seen coming out of the top and bottom of the silver car, which had its bonnet open and was stationary near Wimborne Road.
Emergency services were called shortly before 6pm, while witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the vehicle.
A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The fire was confined to the engine compartment.
"It was extinguished using one breathing apparatus and one high-pressure hose reel.
"Police were also in attendance and the vehicle was well alight on the highway when we arrived."
The incident was dealt with by 6.22pm.
