A POOLE based fundraising group have set themselves the challenge of cycling, running and jogging over 8,500 miles collectively to send a child on a dream vacation to Disney World in Florida.

Matt Lee and his wife Terri and the other members of Allan’s Superheroes, set up in memory of Matt’s brother, are covering 8652 miles, the round trip from Heathrow to Orlando to raise money for national children's charity Dreamflight.

The 20 team members have been given 10 weeks to complete 432.6 miles each, beginning on Saturday August 1.

Matt said: “I have a team of fundraisers who usually enter the Dorset Plane Pull event, pulling a plane for Dreamflight but unfortunately due to Covid-19, the event has been cancelled so my wife and I have come up with a fundraiser.

“We have some fantastic people in our team including a lady taking part in a wheelchair who was a Dreamflight child.

“I’m feeling very excited about the challenge specially as its in memory of my brother and I have my other brother and my wife who came up with the idea with me doing this challenge with us.”

The group have set themselves the target of raising £3,500, which will cover the costs for one very deserving child to travel to Disney in Orlando, Florida when Dreamflight begin operating again.

UK charity Dreamflight help to treat children with a serious illness or disability, without their parents, on the holiday of a lifetime to Florida.

Each October, 192 children from all over the UK, accompanied by a team of medical carers, board a Boeing 747 - hired by Dreamflight - and spend 10 days in Orlando.

Although their trip for 2020 has been cancelled, the charity has rolled over the nominations for next year's trip.
