DANCING kings and queens put their best foot forward and shimmied their way through a celebration of dance and music.

More than 300 pupils from 11 schools across Christchurch came together at the Two Riversmeet Centre in Purewell to celebrate physical activity as part The Grange School Sports Partnership.

Students from primary and secondary schools performed a 10-minute slot of either dance or aerobics-based movement to their own music with everyone joining in a mass aerobics workout led by Twynham and Highcliffe schools at the end of the session.

Cath Rudd, partnership development manager, said: "Everyone has done really well. The whole thing has been brilliant.

"All the schools - from the little ones to the year 11s - performed their part with real enthusiasm in celebration of physical activity. I'd just like to thank everyone who helped organise all the events as they've all been a great success."

The day was organised as part of the government's initiative to get 85 per cent of pupils doing at least two and a half hours of PE and sports a week by 2008.

According to Cath, all primary schools in the area are now participating in what is referred to as Take Ten, where pupils spend 10 minutes each day doing something physical.
