THE chairman of the governors of a Bournemouth grammar school was honoured at Buckingham Palace.

Noel Spreadbury, who has served as a governor of Bournemouth School for Girls for more than two decades, received an MBE for his services to education.

Head teacher Alistair Brien said: "As a school we are delighted that Noel's services to the school have been recognised in such a special way.

"He has been a true servant to the school for over 20 years, always wanting to ensure that the girls at our school get the very best opportunities in their education.

"For that we are truly grateful. I can think of no one more deserving of such an honour."

Annie Sinnott of Sherborne was also honoured yesterday and received a MBE for her services to social care.

She is the owner and manager of the Old Vicarage Care Home.

Her honour is the latest in a long line of accolades awarded to her for her excellent practice in social care, which she disseminates through working with a number of advisory bodies.
