Kaiser Chiefs, BIC

BEFORE the night began, Californian support band The Little Ones told me how much the Bournemouth cliffs reminded them of Malibu and how they'd taken plenty of pictures of the beach.

Perhaps this home from home affinity could explain the ease in which the packed out audience warmed to them.

Next up, a high-tempo set from We Are Scientists that passed the time nicely before the main event.

A fanfare and the dropping of the stage curtain signalled the arrival of the Kaiser Chiefs. Being the second night of their UK tour the band was in fine fettle and opened with a raucous rendition of Everything Is Average Nowadays.

Frontman Ricky Wilson was especially energetic and spent the night leaping from speakers, climbing scaffolding and at one point emerging off stage at the back of the audience.

The set list comprised a balance of material from albums Employment and Yours Truly, Angry Mob with the inclusion of a new track that the band dedicated to AFC Bournemouth player Darren Anderton.

The relentless pace continued and by the time of the encore, the crowd were as sweaty and deliriously happy as the Chiefs.

It ended as is right and proper with an extended rendition of Oh My God that bounced the BIC building a millimetre lower into the ground.
