POOLE Festival of running on July 10, 2000, proved to be a record-breaking day.

Two athletes broke the course records in the Poole 10k while a troupe of young siblings won two junior races.

It was the fourth year running that the prestigious Poole 10k had run side-by-side with the equally popular series of minithon races for youngsters.

The festival proved popular due to its appeal to all ages children as young as eight taking part along with the slightly mature 70-somethings.

As well as records being smashed by the winners of both the male and female races, attendance was also the highest it had been.

Grace Benham, Heidi Burton and Sarah Meaker all from Poole – took first place in the girls 10-11 age group. Then there brothers Edward Benham, Paul Burton and Daniel Meaker did the same in the boys 12-13 age group.
