BAD behaviour during the lockdown prompted a series of police and fire incidents over the bank holiday weekend.

Campers on the beach, a VE Day street party, daytrippers and sunbathers were among those whose behaviour was reported to the emergency services.

Crowds were reported enjoying the glorious weather at Sandbanks on Friday.

And on Saturday morning firefighters called to reports of smoke at Shell Bay discovered a family gathered round a campfire after illegally staying there overnight.

They found a family who had travelled "some distance" and had camped overnight and were having a camp fire.

The family were given fines and sent home and the fire was put out using buckets of water.

"Overnight camping and fires are not allowed on Studland Beach anyway but it’s unbelievable that people are going out and doing this sort of thing when they should be at home" said a spokesman for Purbeck police.

Police were called to a VE Day street party after reports that people were not following social distancing guidelines.

Officers went to Moorlands Road in West Moors at 8.26pm on Friday.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "Officers attended and found that a street party was taking place but those involved were adhering to social distancing guidance. No further action was required."

Emergency services were called to help a kayaker in difficulty off Sandbanks. They also found several paddleboarders enjoying the sunshine and sent them home.

Families travelling from London and beyond to Dorset were stopped by police and sent home on the bank holiday.

And police have now warned people not to lie in front of their children about their intended journeys.

"We’ve had a number of people so far from London and beyond looking to visit various landmarks" said a spokesman for Dorset Traffic Cops. " Yes, Durdle Door is beautiful, but sadly at the moment, however nice the weather is, you can’t visit it."

Police have even posted a picture of Durdle Door on their Facebook page so people can look at it without travelling to Dorset

And they added: "Also, please don’t lie to us in front of your children about your intended journey. What sort of example is that setting them?"

An uninsurved VW Golf was seized from a driver as he waited on zigzag lines for his KFC in Winton.

Several other vehicles were also seized for having no insurance or defects.
