FAMILIES travelling from London and beyond to Dorset were stopped by police and sent home on the bank holiday.

And police have now warned people not to lie in front of their children about their intended journeys.

"We’ve had a number of people so far from London and beyond looking to visit various landmarks" said a spokesman for Dorset Traffic Cops. " Yes, Durdle Door is beautiful, but sadly at the moment, however nice the weather is, you can’t visit it."

Police have even posted a picture of Durdle Door on their Facebook page so people can look at it without travelling to Dorset

And they added: "Also, please don’t lie to us in front of your children about your intended journey. What sort of example is that setting them?"

Officers will be out and about across Dorset this weekend to ensure people are only making essential journeys.

They have already issued 377 fixed penalty notices to people breaking the lockdown rules.
