A SECOND man has been sentenced in relation to a burglary at a shop in Bournemouth.

Shaun Anthony Johnson, aged 37 and of no fixed address, was sentenced at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday April 24 in relation to a burglary at the Co-Op store in Kinson Road on Sunday April 19.

He was given a 20-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

It follows the sentencing of David Michael Vye, 21 also of no fixed address, who was jailed for 12 weeks on Tuesday, April 21 after admitting his part in the same burglary.

At around 6.15pm on Sunday April 19 two men were reported to be acting suspiciously at the Co-Op store in Kinson Road. They were asked to leave by staff and both men complied.

Shortly afterwards, both men gained entry to the store through a restricted area at the rear of the premises and Johnson took a number of items before leaving.

Vye remained at the scene and was loading goods into a bag when a staff member came across him and the defendant fled. He was arrested nearby in Verney Road around 15 minutes later.

Following enquiries, Johnson was arrested at an address in Bournemouth on Thursday April 23.

Police Staff Investigator Max Surman, of Dorset Police, said: “I am pleased that through our initial response and subsequent investigation work we were able to identify both men involved in this burglary and bring them before the courts.

“We are committed to supporting local businesses and will do all we can do identity and take action against those who commit offences such as this.”
