TOPSHOP stores across Bournemouth will close from 4pm today until further notice.

It comes as many other retailers such as River Island and TkMaxx decided to shut up shop due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The government advised people to stop unnecessary contact and told cafes, restaurants, leisure centres, theatres, gyms, pubs and bars to close.

The clothes store will close its doors in Bournemouth town centre and Castlepoint, along with its retailers across the UK.

According to Topshop, staff will be paid their usual pay for the month as well as any outstanding overtime payments.

A spokesperson for Topshop said: "The health and wellbeing of our employees, customers and communities remains our highest priority and we continue to closely follow the government guidelines.

"In line with many other retailers the Group has made the difficult decision to close until further notice all of our stores from 4PM this afternoon.

They added: "All store staff remain employees during this time and will be paid their normal pay for March plus any outstanding overtime payments, after which we will review this situation and will be keeping our store teams updated.

"In the meantime we will be focusing on our digital and social platforms to keep our customers engaged during this challenging time."
