BOSSES of a Bournemouth pub and restaurant have slammed "inconsiderate" motorists putting lives at risk in their car park.

The car park can be accessed from both Tuckton Bridge and Riverside Lane, meaning drivers can avoid the busy Tuckton roundabout at peak times.

Staff said children walking to school and dog walkers have reported near misses from drivers speeding through the car park.

During peak times of the day the area sees children walking to and from a number of nearby schools including Twynham and St Peter's.

The area is also popular with dog walkers due to its proximity to riverside walks

Staff are now placing barriers at the entrances and urging motorists to stay out of the car park.

In a post on Facebook, they said: "After way too many near misses by inconsiderate drivers cutting through our car park and almost hurting children and dogs we have taken the option of blocking the exit of the car park outside of business hours in the hope it will stop reckless queue-jumping through our car park.

"Please respect our decision and do not move the sign until a permanent option is in place."

A spokesperson for the pub's operators Mitchells and Butlers: β€œIn the interests of safety we have installed temporary signs to deter motorists, who are not guests, from using the carpark as a cut through.”
