BOURNEMOUTH Hospital Charity received a phenomenal donation for the Jigsaw Ward from a patient.

Dan Hall and Sarah Manning donated £8,765.40 to say thank you to the team that looked after Dan when he was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2014.

Dan's aunt-in-law Sarah set up a GoFundMe page in December 2016 to help fund extra treatment for Dan following him relapsing within a year of his bone marrow transplant.

The money raised was initially to pay for a trial period of a drug called Sorafenib, before becoming the main funding for Dan to continue the treatment until April 2018.

After four months of taking Sorafenib, Dan started to show improvements and signs of the leukaemia cells reducing to a minimal level.

At the end of 2017 he was taken off the medication and it was decided by specialists in March 2019 that he no longer required it.

It was in that moment Dan decided he wanted to give something back to the Jigsaw Unit and Ward 11 who had worked so closely with him and continue to support him.

Dan said: "I wanted to donate all my funding to these departments in particular because they worked closely with me since my diagnosis and continue to do so, and I know just how much vital equipment like an ECG is in high demand.

"It was just my way of making sure others in similar situations to myself get the best possible care, results and equipment needed. As a patient still myself it makes me immensely proud to be able to give something back to those who have tirelessly helped myself and other patients. "

Dan's fantastic donation will be used to purchase a new ECG machine to monitor patients' heart rhythm and activity after Cancer Care Matron Marie and Ward 11 Sister Faye decided one was much needed for the departments.
