A BROOMSTICK-holding sports team took to a Bournemouth field to raise life-changing funds for Sports Relief.

The Bournemouth Banshees Quidditch Club played a range of games at Slades Farm on Sunday afternoon, including the likes of Hunger Games and Snunger Games.

Each team member went head-to-head to get their hands on a stick or snitch before the other players, before playing in a competitive game where half the team played in red shirts to represent Sports Relief.

Quidditch is a team sport played while straddling broomsticks, in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through any of three hoops fixed at either end of the pitch.

The society from Bournemouth University have raised £65 so far to help tackle issues including mental health, homelessness and child poverty right across the world and hoping to raise even more.

They invited people of all ages to take part in their free taster session, regardless of whether they were a Beater, Keeper, Chaser, Seeker or Snitch.

Coach of the team Katie Mcgowan said: "It's been quite a good run. We normally play against university and community teams.

"There are two or three new people in our team but they have put a lot of effort in and picked it up really quickly."

The team started with six players but now holds a team of 18.

President William Aizlewood said: "I started playing in my first year of university. We've really built it up now and are one of the bigger teams in the South West."
