PATIENTS in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s Jigsaw Unit were treated to exciting goody bags from cancer survivor Geraldine Staples.

Geraldine, who had breast cancer 14 years ago, made it her mission to “give something back” to those who supported her and the patients experiencing what she went through.

Her work as a Tropic Independent Ambassador enabled Geraldine to reach out to customers and fellow Ambassadors alike to help her with her idea.

She explained: “I pitched my idea to the Tropic team and customers, some of whom have had cancer themselves. It was a real team effort from everyone involved.”

Working at Macmillan Caring Locally for 10 years further emphasised Geraldine’s passion for helping others, so along with her fellow Tropic Independent Ambassadors and customers, an impressive 70 goody bags were made for patients in the Jigsaw Ward.

Tropic customers sponsored the goody bags which included an array of items such as fluffy socks, Tropic products, mints, notebooks, pens and much more.

Each Tropic customer also added a personal note to the bag.

Christine Weight, Breast Care Nurse Specialist at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital, received the bags on February 14 and plans to distribute them throughout the Jigsaw Ward.

Geraldine said: “It’s lovely to receive something like this when you’re going through a rough time. Until you hear those words that you have cancer, you will never fully understand.”

With Geraldine and her team’s pledge to help cancer patients proven successful, future plans are already in the making.

Geraldine explained: “I want to do more pamper bags for patients. I would have loved one when I was in the unit!

“Receiving one of these bags shows someone is thinking about you. It boosts your morale.”
