THE police helicopter flew over Wimborne town centre last night after concerns over the 'erratic' driving of a pick-up truck.
The silver Mitsubishi, which police say was being driven "erratically", failed to stop for officers on the A35 Puddletown Bypass just before 8.50pm.
Later, the vehicle was seen travelling along the A31 and into Wimborne.
The pick-up was eventually found abandoned in New Borough. No arrests have been made.
It has now been discovered that the vehicle had been stolen from West Dorset.
A spokesperson from Dorset Police said the NPAS helicopter was involved in the search.
"The driver had left the vehicle," he said.
"Further searches were carried out in an attempt to locate the driver, but at this stage they have not yet been identified and enquiries are ongoing.
"It has been established that the vehicle involved was reported as stolen from an address in Bridport."
