NEW activities could added at a popular country park site as operators look to sustain the facility for future years.

Upton Country Park is looking to introduce four additional attractions on the site from April.

A tender process was launched last month and the window to submit applications closed on Friday, December 20.

The detailed listing for the contract said that Upton Country Park is offering "four key and prime outdoor enclosed areas or concessionaire operations in return for suitable base rents and additional rent payments based on turnover.

Successful bids will provide facilities and activities that enhance the visitor experience, while being in keeping with the Grade II listed country park, the tender summary said.

Contracts for the use of each area are due to run from April 1, 2020, until March 31, 2025, with park owners BCP Council expecting suitable base rents and additional rent payments based on turnover.

A BCP Council spokeswoman: “To maintain Upton Country Park’s position as one of the leading visitor attractions in Dorset, we continually review and update the facilities and services on offer.

"We have just opened our amazing new Adventure Play Park which is proving very popular with families.

“Next year we are inviting local leisure and events businesses to tell us how they might join us to provide an offering that helps sustain the park into the future.

"We are looking to add vibrant activity concessions which fit in with our healthy, natural ethos and encourage people to visit, stay and enjoy this beautiful country park.”

As previously reported, the adventure play park was officially opened this month by Mayor of Poole Cllr Marion Le Poidevin.

The new attraction was delivered with £230,000 of funding, including successful Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding bid submitted by the Friends of Upton Country Park.

The play area, which boasts disabled access, is part of wider plans to enhance the grounds and house.
