A 16-YEAR old from Christchurch has officially been named St John Ambulance’s Cadet of the Year for Dorset.

Georgia Hanson has volunteered with the health charity for four years, after joining to learn first aid and become more confident with her ability to reassure others.

She will now compete for the national title in February.

The national winner will represent St John Ambulance’s young people, such as attending ceremonial occasions and royal functions.

Georgia and her fellow Cadets of the Year have a key role in ensuring voices of young volunteers are heard in St John Ambulance.

Georgia, who is also a student at Highcliffe Sixth Form, said: “I really enjoy St John due to the lovely people I've met and the first aid and life skills I have developed. I have made so many memories and learned so much in my time here.

“I was absolutely starstruck when I found out I had achieved District Cadet of the Year and I’m determined to use my new role to help my fellow Cadets in any way I can. St John and the people in it have given me so much, it only feels right to give back by finding ways to improve the experience for other young people.”

St John’s district youth lead, Jack Andrews said: “Georgia was a very worthy winner of the competition - she showed all the skills needed to be our District Cadet of the Year, and her confidence grew throughout the day.

“I am very proud of all of the Cadets that entered the competition and they are all assets to St John Ambulance.”
