A PUPIL from Bournemouth has been helping people across the world deal with metal health by sending them letters of support, and she recently sent her 275th.

Harriett Eaton, 17, who attends Talbot Heath, set up the scheme two years ago and said it was because she “didn’t want anyone to feel how I did”.

Harriett, who is known as Boo, said: “I have seen other schemes like it, I enjoy writing letters and wanted to try something myself.

“I started it after my GCSEs when I had a massive summer, so it was something to do. I wanted to show people that they are not alone.”

Harriett set up the scheme on Instagram, using the handle ‘letters.of.support’ and she now has nearly 1,000 followers.

People reach out to her using a questionnaire and she responds with supportive letters to help them through their dark times.

Harriett continued: “I definitely didn’t expect to carry it on this long. I have had people from all around the world.

“It’s nice when I get responses saying I have given them bravery to reach out for help. It’s so rewarding.

“People are getting the worst that humanity can throw at them. Reaching out is the first step, I can offer support so they can get professional help.

“I don’t want people to feel how I did. There’s a funding issue for people with mental health at the minute. I can’t do anything about the funding, but I can do my own little thing.”
