A DORSET based choir have been spreading festive cheer to those who deserve it most, in a day they dedicated to doing random acts of kindness.

Funky Little Choir took two buses of 100 people each to sing to various people who had been nominated across Christchurch and Poole.

Sandie Elkins, 44, a member of the choir, said: “We came up with the idea after speaking to people last year.

“I put a social media post out asking if anybody wanted to nominate somebody. It could have been a ‘thank you’ or a ‘get well’. We received 22 nominations.

“The reactions (of the nominees) were really astonishing and overwhelming. We surprised someone who has had problems with his brain. His mum actually nominated his nurse, so we surprised them both.”

The choir would surprise these people at their work or homes and sing uplifting and Christmas songs to them.

Sandie continued: “I would really like it to be a national day for people to be involved in. It’s such a great thing to celebrate.”

Rosie Hodgekinson, 43, nominated her mum and dad, Leslie and Tony Lock, after they had a tough year battling health issues.

Rosie said: “They were feeling pretty down. The choir members stood on the driveway and sang. (My mum) was a bit bemused to start with but when she realised what was happening, she got a bit teary.

“My mum said ‘what a lovely moment’ after. It made me feel very lovely about it.

“They are such a talented choir with the songs and the harmonies.”
